🛠️ Step-by-Step Guide: Fixing a DEFY Top Loader Washing Machine That’s Not Spinning

Step 1: Unplug the Machine

Safety first—always switch off and unplug the washing machine from the wall socket before beginning any checks.

Step 2: Check the Load Balance

Open the lid and make sure the load inside the drum is balanced.

• Uneven distribution of clothes can prevent spinning for safety.

   

• Rearrange bulky items or remove excess laundry and try a spin cycle again.

   

Step 3: Ensure the Lid is Fully Closed

The machine will not spin if the lid isn’t shut properly.

• Make sure the lid closes firmly.

   

• If the lid switch is faulty or loose, the machine may not detect that it’s closed.

   

Step 4: Confirm the Spin Setting

Check the control panel to ensure a cycle with a spin function is selected.

• Some wash programs delay spinning or reduce spin speed depending on the fabric type.

   

Step 5: Check the Drainage System

If water hasn’t drained properly, the spin cycle may not start.

Here’s how to visually inspect and resolve drainage issues:

• Ensure the height of the drain hose does not exceed 100 cm
  (Too much height can block water flow)

   

• Check that the drain hose is not kinked or blocked

   

• Inspect the drain filter for any blockages caused by:

   

  • Foreign objects (coins, buttons, etc.)

  • Lint or fabric fluff buildup

     

Step 6: Restart the Machine
Plug the machine back in and run a spin-only or drain cycle to test if the issue is resolved.
