Cleaning the filter of your DEFY washing machine is an essential maintenance task that ensures optimal performance, prevents drainage issues, and extends the lifespan of your appliance. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process safely and easily.

What You’ll Need:

  • A shallow container or tray
  • A towel or absorbent cloth
  • An old toothbrush or small cleaning brush (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

  • Unplug the washing machine from the wall socket.
  • For extra safety, you can also switch off the wall plug.

Step 2: Locate the Filter

  • The filter is usually located at the bottom front of the washing machine.
  • Look for a small square or rectangular access panel or flap.

Step 3: Open the Filter Cover

  • Use your fingers or a flat tool (like a butter knife) to open the flap.
  • Inside, you’ll see the filter cap (round knob) and sometimes a small emergency drain hose.

Step 4: Prepare for Water Spillage

  • Place a shallow tray or towel under the filter area to catch any water.
  • If there's a drain hose, gently pull it out, remove the cap, and drain the water into a container.

Step 5: Remove the Filter

  • Turn the filter cap counter-clockwise to unscrew it.
  • Pull it out slowly—some water may still spill out.

Step 6: Clean the Filter

  • Remove lint, coins, fabric threads, or any other objects stuck inside.
  • Wash the filter under running water. Use a small brush if needed.

Step 7: Clean the Filter Housing

  • Wipe the inside of the filter compartment with a cloth to remove any dirt or buildup.

Step 8: Reinsert the Filter

  • Screw the filter cap back in clockwise until it’s snug and secure.
  • If you used the emergency drain hose, close it and push it back in.

Step 9: Close the Access Flap

  • Snap or click the filter cover back into place.

Step 10: Power On and Test

  • Plug the machine back in.
  • Run a quick rinse cycle to make sure everything is working correctly and there are no leaks.
